A WOMEN’S soft ball and cricket team based in Rogerstone has been bowled over by sponsorship from the Edenstone Group.
The homebuilder has gifted Rogie Rebels, part of Rogerstone Welfare Cricket Club, £1,000 towards new kits for the 2022 league.
Edenstone Group accounts manager Marie Greaves has played for the team since summer 2019.
She said: “As with many other sports teams, the pandemic heavily limited our training sessions, matches and fundraising and we’re glad to be back training and playing. The sponsorship from Edenstone will make a significant difference to the team, helping towards the cost of new kits for the 2022 season.”
The original Rogerstone Cricket Club has its roots in the steel and railway industries and were inaugural winners of the Newport and District League.
The name of the club changed from Rogerstone to Rogerstone Welfare in 1929 when the Welfare Grounds were opened. Today, the club runs a range of softball and hardball cricket teams for children and adults.
The women’s section is its newest and fastest growing section.
The club’s cricket ground is less than 10 miles from Edenstone’s Lisvane developments – Beaufort Gardens, which has achieved sell-out success and the new even more luxurious Beaufort Park. It’s also around 12 miles from the company’s Magor headquarters.
Edenstone Group operations director Chris Edge said: “It’s great to see that a club with such a rich history is continuing to grow and offer new opportunities for people to stay fit and active. We’re happy to sponsor the Rogie Rebels and wish them the best of luck for the season.”
The Edenstone Group is currently building and selling new homes across South Wales under its two housing brands, Edenstone Homes and Bluebell Homes, with developments including Beaufort Park in Lisvane and Parc Ceirw Garden Village in Morriston.
